Kevin Hart’s ex-wife, Torrei Hart, is working hard to build her own brand.
After years of being behind the scenes, the 35-year-old mother of two is now busy carving a niche for herself as a comedic actress.
In a recent interview with theGrio, she said one of her new ongoing projects is Bounce TV’s BRKDWN, where she shows her funny side on Ex-Wives Movie Review. On the next episode, which is aired on Tuesday, Hart gives her lively opinion on her ex-husband’s upcoming flick, About Last Night.
“I loved [About Last Night]. “ said Hart. “It was hilarious. Kevin’s a fool anyway. He brings the funny; he’s the man right now. He’s killing it.”
Aside from her regular slot on BRKDWN, Hart’s just signed the dotted line to join the cast of upcoming Hollywood Exes spin-off, Atlanta Exes. Cast members for the new reality TV show includes Tameka Raymond (Usher’s ex wife), Christina Johnson (Cee-Lo’s ex) Sheree Buchanan (ex-wife of NFL player Ray Buchanan) and Monyetta Shaw (Ne-Yo‘s former flame).
Hart said far from catfights or “broken glasses” the all-female ensemble are getting on like a house on fire. “We have all been in similar situations. It’s a common bond. It’s organic.”
“I felt like it was a good fit for me,” said Hart, who is now filming Atlanta Exes, which is scheduled to debut this summer. “I felt like it was a good step, a way for me to spread my wings and try something new.”
In another string to her bow, Hart has recently executive produced and acted in a short film titled Victim of Circumstance, which is currently being screened at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles. Hart, who describes herself as an emerging mogul, has also launched a line of Skimpy mixers.
“I am very excited about this year,” said Hart. “I have been working hard for years. I was his (Kevin’s) backbone. I put myself on the backburner. Torrei is finally doing what she wants to do. Now I am free to focus on me and still be supported by my ex.”
“I learnt a lot from Kevin. He showed me how hard to work in order to work in this industry. Had I not experienced this with him, I wouldn’t be on track like I am now.”
Despite their highly publicized divorce after nearly eight years of marriage, Hart said the former lovebirds are not enemies and are good friends that work together for the sake of their two young kids, Heaven, 8, and 6-year-old Hendrix.
“I met Kevin when he was selling sneakers,” said Hart. “We went through a lot of growing pains together. I don’t regret any of it. Now the focus is on co-parenting the children.”
