Marlon Wayans talks ‘White Chicks 2,’ defends Nick Cannon in whiteface controversy

Marlon Wayans is headed back to the big screen writing, producing and starring in A Haunted House 2.

In an interview with theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon, Wayans opened up about his new film, which hits theaters April 18, and also discussed his plan to do a sequel to 2004’s White Chicks.

The In Living Color star revealed who he believes is preventing White Chicks 2 from getting made.

“White people… The white man ain’t letting us do it,” Wayans said. “I think people are scared that it’s10 years removed. Overseas markets have changed and selling foreign isn’t as lucrative as it was for these types of movies.”

“We’ll figure out the business and we’ll find a way to get it done because that sequel is a must.”

In White Chicks, Marlon and his brother Shawn Wayans go undercover posing as white women in order to prevent a kidnapping plot.

Recently Nick Cannon sparked controversy when he posted a photo of himself on social media, donning whiteface in an effort to promote his new album “White People Party Music.”

Wayans defended Cannon’s whiteface stunt and says the Drumline actor should ignore the backlash.

“I don’t listen to backlash,” Wayans said. “I tell everybody to su** it. I do what I do, I don’t really care. Everybody’s gonna have an opinion […] I don’t care.”

“Nick [Cannon] shouldn’t worry about [backlash]. That’s not the first time that’s been done. Nobody gave Eddie Murphy backlash when he did Mr. White [on Saturday Night Live]. Nobody gave Robert Downy Jr. backlash when he did [blackface] in Tropic Thunder.”

The comedian also weighed on the accusations of racism that Chelsea Handler received after taking over The Huffington Post’s Twitter account during February’s Oscars in an effort to promote her new book, Uganda Be Kidding Me.

“I think Chelsea’s about eight and a half inches black,” Wayans said. “So she got black in her. I think she could make some jokes here and there. I forgive her. She’s still got the taste of brotha in her mouth.”
