Beauty brands across the board are increasingly recruiting minority women to the be the new face of their cosmetic lines.
On Thursday, it was announced that British supermodel Jourdan Dunn is now the new face of Maybelline New York.
“It is an honor to be a spokesperson for such an iconic brand,” Dunn said in a statement. “I am proud to say that I am a Maybelline girl and hopefully I can make people feel the same way I did when I saw the advertisements growing up. The brand imagery is always beautiful and positive. To now be a part of that is a dream come true!”
The 23-year-old model joins a league of other beautiful black women like Lupita Nyong’o, Kerry Washington, Kelly Rowland and Zoe Saldana – all of whom have recently been tapped to be spokeswomen of numerous big-name beauty companies.

As for Dunn, the rising star’s resume includes impressive highlights – some of which include her appearance in television ads for Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Éclat concealer, her role as a face for Burberry Beauty, her feature of the cover of multiple magazines and even landing a walk on the runway for the popular annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
“Jourdan’s look, style and positive energy are perfect for the Maybelline New York brand,” said Jerome Bruhat, global brand president of Maybelline New York. “She truly reflects Maybelline’s vision of global beauty.”
This first set of Maybelline’s television and print adds featuring Dunn will highlight the brand’s Go Extreme mascara. The ads are expected to roll out sometime this month.
