Tiger Woods’ ex-wife Elin Nordegren graduated from Rollins College over the weekend and also gave a commencement speech in which she alluded to the past controversy involving Woods’ cheating.
Nordegren earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and was awarded the class’s top honor — the Hamilton Holt Outstanding Senior Award.
During her address to fellow graduates, the 34-year-old never mentioned her ex-husband’s name but clearly alluded to the controversy generated from Woods’ extramarital affairs scandal.
“When I entered my student advisor office in the fall of 2005, I was 25 years old,” Nordegren said. “I just recently moved to America. I was married without children. Today, nine years later, I’m a proud American, and I have two beautiful children.”
“But I’m no longer married,” she added as the audience laughed and applauded even louder.
“It was right after I had taken communication and the media [class], I was unexpectedly thrust into the media limelight,” she said. “And I probably should have taken more notes in that class.”
Nordegren began taking classes at Rollins in 2005, took a semester off after the birth of each of her children, and took a semester off in 2010 following Woods’ scandal, reports E! Online.
“I have also realized that education has been the only consistent part of my life for the last nine years, and it has offered me comfort,” the single mother said. “Because education is the one thing that no one can take away from you.”
Nordegren also poked fun at herself, joking about how it took her nine years to graduate.
