Teen kicked out of prom because of adults having "impure thoughts"

A Chesterfield, Virginia teen, 17-year-old Clare Ettinger says she was kicked out of her prom after several fathers serving as chaperones complained her dress evoked quote “impure thoughts.”

The sparkly dress was fingertip length, the only dress code requirement listed on the invitation for the Richmond Homeschool Prom.

Clare claims when she got to the prom, held at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville, “some of the dads who were chaperoning had complained that my dancing was too provocative, and that I was going to cause the young men at the prom to think impure thoughts.”

She says she was then told she had to leave.

Clare’s boyfriend, who is black,  was there that night and says it wasn’t about the dancing; it was about her dress.

“Nobody was dancing, it was just one big circle in the middle, and it was just really awkward,” says James Thompson. “Saying you have to leave because you’re making the men, not even the kids on the floor but the men who are watching you, have impure thoughts and you have to go, that’s not her position to control what they think.”

Organizers of the prom declined to comment.
