'How to Train Your Dragon 2' moved Gerard Butler to tears

Every time Gerard Butler attends a screening of his latest animated film How to Train Your Dragon 2, he said he’s filled with pride.

He’s also apparently filled with tears.

Butler told theGrio.com’s Chris Witherspoon that the other people in the audience weren’t the only ones getting choked up over the new sequel.

Butler reprises his role as viking patriarch, “Stoick.” The film also stars late night talk show host Craig Ferguson.

The movie is sure to leave audiences mesmerized and also packs a much more emotional punch than 2010’s original.

“There’s a scene where I was crying when I was doing it,” Ferguson said. “You care about these people. We’ve been living with these guys for a long time. And you care about what happens to them. So when emotional stuff happens, it affects you.”

“I’ve seen it twice now with an audience,” Butler added. “There was a time last night when it seemed like every single person was crying, including the dudes … it’s bad enough getting caught crying … but at your own movie?”

Butler and Ferguson bring to life animated Viking characters alongside Cate Blanchett, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Kirstin Wiig, Kit Harrington, and America Ferrera. West African born actor Djimon Honsou stars as the film’s madman villain.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 hits theaters nationwide June 17.
