Inspired by the cassette tapes of the 90’s, theGrio’s B-Side section gives emerging artists a platform to share some of their more personal songs with their fanbase.
Featuring words from Los Angeles singer songwriter, The Dan, checkout this week’s B-side emotional video, “Senses.”
I wrote this song when I was in a place where I probably would have given my last dime to see someone I cared about so much succeed. Someone I was so open with, vulnerable to, and intrigued by who said they loved me but actions said something completely different over a long period of time. I hate to say I was blinded, but something definitely wasn’t clear, and I knew that if I didn’t remove myself completely from the situation that I would drown in the hope that I had for us.
This was my favorite song, but it took me a over a year to be able to perform it live and keep that occasional waterfall that comes from our eyes to not happen mid-performance. When I was thinking of making this video, I compared this situation and this song to a marriage. I thought that the feeling I had was probably similar to your fiancé not showing up to your wedding, and even though you may be done after that, you still have to carry on past the memories and plans you had together. In our most difficult times in life, we have to push through the bad to find the beauty on the other side.
