June 25th, 2009, will always be a day you remember where you were when you heard that MJ died.

Marsha Ambrosius was a co-writer of one of Jackson’s last hits, 2001’s “Butterflies.”

“I wrote about a guy who I had a crush who used to work at a McDonalds in London,” Ambrosius recalled of the song’s origins.

At the time, Ambrosius was “shopping for a record deal,” as a member of Floetry. Jackson heard a version of the song on Ambrosius’ demo tape.

He then arranged for Ambrosius to work with him while he was recording Invincible.

“I believed in that song,” Ambrosius said. “I just didn’t know that I’d get Michael Jackson to believe in it too […] I was just embraced by ‘the greatest.'”
