In 2013, Robin Thicke’s album Blurred Lines sold 177,000 copies in its first week and was later nominated for a Grammy.
Thicke’s latest album, the creepily titled Paula, doesn’t even come close.
According to Billboard, the album sold a mere 25,000 copies in its first week and only 530 in the U.K. — a huge dip from an artist who was at the peak of his career a few months ago.
The global success of Blurred Lines, however, did not prevent controversy from following the 37-year-old singer.
There was the ugly legal battle with the Marvin Gaye estate over the “Blurred Lines” sample followed by the cringe-worthy Miley Cyrus performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
And his wife Paula Patton reportedly left him — which served as “inspiration” for the new album.
Last week, Interscope Records used the hashtag #AskThicke to hold a fan Twitter chat that morphed into an online troll session of people launching insults about Thicke’s personal life.
