The Ku Klux Klan is recruiting in South Carolina, using candy and flyers that read at the top “Save our land, Join the Klan.”
Residents of Seneca woke up last weekend to find bags containing candy and a flyer in their driveways.
Robert Jones, the Imperial Klaliff of the sect, the Loyal White Knights, told FOX Carolina that Saturday was one of three yearly night rides in which Klan members distribute literature overnight.
The “Klan Hotline” was dialed by a reporter, and among other things a male voice said on the voice mail recording, the message ended with, “always remember: if it ain’t white, it ain’t right. White power.”
Jones said they did not target any specific houses or neighborhoods.
“I mean, we can’t tell who lives in a house, whether they’re black, white, Mexican, gay, we can’t tell that,” said Jones. “And if you were to look at somebody’s house like that, that means you’d be pretty much a racist.”
According to FOX, the leader called his group a civil rights organization, not a hate group.
One resident, who did not want to be identified, said that she and neighbors are “very angry, very upset.”
