Larenz Tate talks 'Love Jones' sequel and discusses new show 'Rush'

Add Larenz Tate’s name to the growing list of Hollywood actors, including, Halle Berry, Nia Long, Viola Davis, and Octavia Spencer, who are making the move from the big screen to the small screen.

The 38-year-old stars on USA Network’s new medical drama, Rush, as Dr. Alex Burke, a “straight-laced” family man who’s best friends with the lead character of the show.

Tate opened up to theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon about the seemingly new trend of film stars taking on TV roles.

“We go where the good work is, and where we can pay those bills,” Tate jokingly said. “I think that television is allowing actors from the film world to find things that we couldn’t normally find in a movie. Not only are the actors moving on to television; the writers, the big time producers and film makers of Hollywood movies are moving into television.”

In addition to talking about his character on Rush, Tate revealed that he’s been in talks to do a sequel to his 90’s cult-classic romantic drama Love Jones, starring Nia Long.

Love Jones is a great thing to do, if we can catch lightening in a bottle… it happened with The Best Man,” said Tate.

“I think if we found the right take on the story and the script was right, it would be nice to do. It’s been something that Nia and I have been approached about and we’ve been talking about trying to do. We’ll see what happens.”

Tune in to watch new episodes of Rush Thursdays at 9/8c on USA.
