News of the death of Robin Williams has fans and Hollywood actors mourning a tremendous and sudden loss.
After much speculation and unanswered questions, we now know how Williams died.
The Oscar-winning actor apparently committed suicide from hanging himself with a belt, Marin County Sheriff’s Lt. Keith Boyd said Tuesday.
Robin Williams’ personal assistant found his body “slightly suspended in a seated position with a belt around his neck.” The other end of the belt was between a closed door and the door frame, Boyd said.
Williams’ left wrist had acute cuts at the time of his death, Boyd said. A pocket knife was found near his body, and a red material consistent with dried blood was found on the knife, Boyd said.
Williams was last seen alive at about 10:30 p.m. PT Sunday, by his wife, when she went to bed. He apparently went into a bedroom at an unknown time after that, and his wife left the home at about 10:30 a.m. Monday, believing him to be asleep, Boyd said. Williams’ personal assistant, concerned because he wasn’t responding to knocks on his bedroom door, entered the room and found him dead at about 11:45 a.m.
Marin County Police department has yet to reveal whether or not Williams left behind a suicide note or if he had narcotics or alcohol in his system at the time of his suicide.
