A Texas mother says she is still shaken after she and her four young kids were mistakenly stopped by police at gun point.
Kametra Barbour was driving along the freeway when Forney police trailed behind and ordered her to pull over on the side of the road. Confused, but compliant, Barbour was then handcuffed by police while her four children remained in the back seat of the vehicle.
Police were responding to a report of a driver speeding down the expressway waving a gun out of the window. According to a 911 call, the victim’s car was described to be “a beige or tan-colored Toyota occupied by four black males.”
Barbour’s car was a red Nissan Maxima. It did not match the description.
A dashcam video shows Barbour’s car pulled over and parked on the side of the freeway as one policeman is heard screaming: “”Driver, let me see your hands! Everybody stick your hands out the window!”
Barbour complies, but audio on the dash cam detects fear in her voice as she asks: “What is wrong? My kids! They’re 6 and 8 and 10, 9. What are we doing? What is going on? Oh my god, you will terrify my children.”
Police quickly realized that they misidentified the vehicle and attempted to console the children, who remained in the car and are heard crying and screaming.
Barbour took to Facebook to share her sentiments on the unfortunate situation.
“Words can not express how we felt after we arrived home. We sat down and had a heart to heart lesson about how your life can change in a matter of seconds. We went from having a good old time shopping in the store and enjoying each other after a very hard day from laying to rest another mother to me and a grandmother to these children to this horrible interaction with the police,” she wrote.
“I am so proud of all of these children because they learned a valuable lesson yesterday. I explain to them that mistakes will happen in life, and as long as you have God on your side and your life in order, then everything will be alright. You must not be bitter or angry; just try to stay calm in a situation like this.”
