After much anticipation over whether he will play Shazam or Black Adam in the upcoming movie adaptation of the DC comic, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has finally confirmed his decision to play the antihero Black Adam.
This announcement should not come as a surprise, since the star had already mentioned that he has always been a fan of Black Adam – and antiheros in general. Appearing in Mexico City to promote his most recent movie, Hercules, Johnson promised that comic fans will not be disappointed, as he is putting is “heart and soul” into the role.
He announced this decision with a tweet Wednesday:

Black Adam is a popular comic book character who starts as a hero but turns villain. Gifted with powers of flight, super strength, super speed, superhuman hearing, invulnerability and magic – he destroys anything that stands in his way in his quest for dominance over all forms of magic.
Production for the movie has yet to begin, although Darren Lemke is already set to write the script for the film.
New Line president and COO Toby Emmeric expressed excitement over the project, noting that all their projects with Dwayne have been nothing but successful.
“He [Dwayne] is such a larger than life character,” he said in an interview, “and it just made perfect sense to me that we put him in a DC comic movie.”
He also added that Dwayne carries around a swag and charisma that comic book characters have, making him a perfect choice for the role.
