Six black Ferguson kids – aged 6 to 13 – appear on a viral video produced by FCKH8 which was created to “educate white America about the racist reality in 2014.”
FCKH8, a social justice-oriented for-profit T-shirt company, recruited the six young kids who reportedly come from homes on the same block where police officer Darren Wilson fatally shot unarmed teenager Michael Brown and sparked weeks of unrest in Ferguson.
In the video, the children ridicule excuses that white people give to avoid involving themselves in the continuous fight against discrimination in America and call people to action to stop racism.
In the beginning of the video, the kids note that Ferguson is “where white police shot an unarmed black teen in the face.” Then one child goes on to call the shooting incident a “national disgrace.”
They then go on to mock some statements that white people allegedly use about racism and black people in America, such as: “All this focus on race makes me uncomfortable,” and, “Some of my best friends are black.”
Other statements from the kids include: “Just because Beyoncé is on your playlist and you voted for Obama doesn’t mean that our generation has seen the end of racist drama.”
“We just want an equal shot at life,” they add. “Not to be shot to death.”
Also in the footage is a white man who makes a brief statement about white people’s responsibility to own up and face racism.
The video ends with a sales pitch of their $13 shirt which bears the statement, “Racism is not over but I’m over racism.” Out of each purchase, $5 goes to charities that work to fight against racism.
