After nine decades, the annual Miss America Pageant struggles to maintain its relevance, and late night host John Oliver tells you why.
Sunday night, Oliver took on the pageant during a segment of his show, Last Week Tonight, and outlined all the controversial portions of the event.
He manages to explain everything as brilliantly as possible in fifteen minutes, commenting on contestants’ swimsuits and adhesive tapes, ventriloquism, gaudy dance numbers and ridiculously complex questions that the ladies have to answer.
On top of this, he also talks about the pageant’s claim to be “the world’s largest provider of scholarships for women,” giving over $45 million in scholarship money. This is a claim Oliver reveals to be a sham.
Check out his hilarious yet bitingly real commentary and let us know your opinion of the pageant in the comments below.
