Surveillance videos pulled out from the Walmart store in Ohio shows footage of the exact moments when two policemen shot and killed John Crawford III.
The recently released video shows 22-year-old Crawford III being shot on Aug. 5 just seconds after the two policemen encounter him. The video runs contrary to the police report filed by the officers, which justified their shooting by claiming that they had warned Crawford III multiple times to drop the air rifle which he refused.
In the video, it can be seen that Crawford is shot almost immediately after the police encounter.
A recent grand jury meeting Wednesday determined that the two officers involved in the incident were justified in their actions, and ultimately decided that no files were to be charged against both.
In a statement, Crawford’s family asked for a federal investigation to determine if race was a factor in the shooting, as Crawford was black and the two officers in question was white. They also add that the surveillance video proves that the death of Crawford was unreasonable and unjustified.
Hours after the grand jury reached a decision, the Department of Justice released a statement saying that they are planning to conduct a separate investigation on the shooting.
