In a recent HuffPost Live interview, former NFL player Terry Crews offered an honest explanation on why some professional athletes turn to violence in their personal lives.
Crews talked about how aggression and violence were such a part of his time as an NFL player:
To get to be a professional athlete, it takes anger. You have to be angry, because somebody counts you out, and they said, ‘You’ll never make it, you won’t do it,’ and that gets you up at four in the morning. You work out for three, four hours on anger. There’s power in anger. The problem is when you make it, you’re still angry.
Fortunately, Crews experienced a rude awakening in his life when he retired from the NFL. He got a job “sweeping factories,” and it says it changed his perspective on life and success.
He also told HuffPost Live that, any prior anger issues, if any, definitely isolated him from his family.
Aside from hosting Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, he has also released a new book Manhood, where he writes about his cathartic experience and life with his family.
