The family of a Oklahoma man charged with murder and assault apologized to the victim’s family via Facebook.
Joyce Nolen, whose son Alton allegedly beheaded a female co-worker last week, admitted that she was “terrified” by her son’s behavior.
Alton is also accused of stabbing another woman at the Oklahoma food processing plant where he used to work.
His mother offered this apology via Facebook:
On behalf of my son, Alton Nolen, my heart is so heavy right now. I know my son. He was raised up in a loving home. I know what they are saying that he done. But I’m going to tell you this, that’s not my son.

Since last week’s attack, police have learned that Nolen had recently converted to Islam. He apparently attempted to convert a number of his co-workers at the Vaughn Foods processing plant.
The Washington Post reports:
One of the federal officials called Nolen’s Facebook page “provocative,” saying it included a photo of Osama bin Laden. A Facebook page appearing to be Nolen’s includes a wide range of photos, including one depicting a beheading and another of Omar al-Shishani, a prominent Islamic State fighter who is Chechen.
According to the Post‘s report, officials have “so far found no links to terrorism.”
“I know my son. My son was raised up in a loving home,” Nolen’s mother says in the Facebook video. “My son was raised up believing in God. That’s what he believed.”
