A 13-year-old boy was shot and killed by his best friend in Washington D.C. Tuesday night in what authorities are calling a tragic accident.
According to NBC Washington, Tyrin Caldwell was playing at a 14-year-old friend’s apartment at the time of the shooting.
Police said Tyrin’s father and the 14-year-old’s mother were outside when they heard gunshots. They immediately ran inside and called for help.
His father told NBC Tyrin kept repeatedly saying, “Daddy, hurt.” The boy died a short time later.
The 14-year-old was immediately taken into police custody, but Tyrin’s father said he hopes the boy is not charged. However, the 14-year-old’s mother could be charged if officials conclude the weapon was not stored properly.
