Engaged mother of 3 killed after turning down man’s advances

An engaged Detroit mother was killed Saturday in a shooting that began after she turned down a man’s advances. Mary “Unique” Spears and fellow family members went to a Joe Louis Post on Detroit’s east side following a funeral.

The 27-year-old’s family says a man, 38, continued to harass Spears until the early morning hours.

“He said, ‘Can I get your name, your number,'” Spears’ relative told My Fox Detroit.  “She said, ‘I have a man I can’t talk to you.'”

When the mother of three and relatives began to leave the unnamed man allegedly grabbed and hit her. Spears’ fiancé stepped and a fight broke out. The suspect opened fire on the group, killing Spears and wounding five others.

Police arrested the man shortly after the shooting.

“What was on your mind that you could be so evil,” Spears’ Belinda Bailey said. “Because she said no to you?”

Head over to My Fox Detroit for information on how to donate to Spears’ family.
