Jaden Smith releases new track “Melancholy” with sister Willow singing backup

Rapper and actor Jaden Smith released a new track called “Melancholy,” which features the 16-year old multi-talented performer rapping over a classic Pink Floyd track. Smith, 16, released the new music via his sister Willow Smith’s SoundCloud account. Willow is featured as a backup vocalist during the 2:48 track, singing “Run, rabbit, run,” while her brother raps about his upbringing, critics and making a career of his own while in his famous father’s shadow.

The song contains allusions to his remake of The Karate Kid as well as critics who believe that he has nothing to say since he grew up as the child of one of the most famous actors on the planet.

The track is set to a song from Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon called “Breathe.” The release of “Melancholy” follows on the heels of three other tracks by the young Smith, “Trophy,” “Blue Ocean,” and “Fast.” The young performer also has released a mixtape called Cool Tape, Vol. 2. In 2011, he was also featured on a remix of Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never,” which reached #8 in the US and went platinum.

Jaden Smith’s last acting appearance was in the 2013 sci-fi film After Earth, which he co-starred in with his father. While Smith has been silent on his next film project, he did release a short video promoting his song “Fast” on Monday.
