St. Louis County police say Missouri state Sen. Jamilah Nasheed was arrested Monday night near the Ferguson police station.
The arrest came during a protest condemning the August shooting of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown.
Sgt. Brian Schellman told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Nasheed was arrested, along with an unidentified man, after police asked her to leave the street multiple times on Monday night. Police told her that she could not protest there.
The Democratic state senator was promoting nonviolence.
Nasheed is being held at the St. Ann jail on two unspecified charges and, according to her attorney, has refused bond.
