Man shot and killed by police inside hospital's emegency room

A patient inside a Highland Park hospital located north of Chicago was shot to death by police on Monday.

According to police reports, the man drew a weapon inside the emergency room and refused to follow orders to drop his gun.

He was then shot and killed. There were no other fatalities or injuries during the incident.

The patient, identified as 27-year-old Christopher M. Anderson, was admitted to the emergency room following a car accident on Sunday night.

His 9-year-old daughter was also in the car at the time of the accident. The driver of their vehicle was arrested, according to the Chicago Daily Herald.

The driver was charged with DUI, amongst other offenses.

Anderson and his daughter were taken to North Shore Highland Park Hospital for treatment. Around 1 in the morning, Anderson became “aggressive,” according to the hospital staff and witnesses, prompting the staff to call police.

When police arrived, Anderson refused to calm down and instead drew his firearm. Attempts to revive him after the shooting were unsuccessful.

The victim’s family has expressed frustration with the lack of information released about the shooting thus far.

Family members say that the victim did not own a gun. Anderson’s daughter was released from the hospital after being treated for injuries sustained during the car accident.

An investigation into the shooting has been launched by the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, according to NBC Chicago. The commander of the task force indicated that there were a substantial number of witnesses who can corroborate the officers’ story.
