Bill Cosby resigned from his position on Temple University’s Board of Trustees Monday.
The comedian and actor stepped down prior to a meeting with the school’s trustees to discuss his ties with the University, reports NBC Philadelphia.
In a statement to fellow trustees, Cosby said:
I have always been proud of my association with Temple University. I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the University and its students. As a result, I have tendered my resignation from Temple University Board of Trustees.
According to an email from Associate Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Communications Ray Betzner to theGrio.com, Temple University responded:
The Board of Trustees accepts Dr. Cosby’s resignation from the board and thanks him for his service to the university.
Cosby’s resignation comes weeks after allegations of rape from more than 20 women resurfaced.
Cosby’s lawyers have denied accusations, but the comedian has yet to directly address them himself.
