Friday evening, over 100 NYPD supporters demonstrated outside City Hall. What made the gathering especially controversial was their decision to mock Eric Garner supporters by wearing “I Can Breathe” hoodies during their counter protest; a blatant play on Garner’s last words, “I can’t breathe.”

Every time demonstrators who believe Garner was murdered screamed, “I can’t breathe,” the NYPD would scream back, “Don’t resist arrest.” Not surprisingly, the environment became increasingly hostile, leading the anti police brutality crowd to take their message to Brooklyn instead.
