Father charged with murder after missing 2-year-old's body found in lake

Raleigh, NC — Steven Blue has been charged with the murder of his 2-year-old son after the child’s body was found in a lake, according to an announcement made by police on Thursday. They say that probable cause led to his arrest.

An Amber alert went out for Tristan Blue on Wednesday morning after the boy’s mother, Briana Dangerfield, said she woke up to find him missing around 1pm. A 9-1-1 call released by police revealed that a caller told the dispatcher that they didn’t believe the child was able to open the door by himself.

However, it didn’t take law enforcement long before suspecting that something more nefarious had taken place.

On Friday, Raleigh police, along with other local agencies, pulled remains from Beaver Dam Lake in northern Wake County. The remains have been transported to the chief medical examiner for more analysis.

The boy’s father is being held without bond, while the boy’s mother is being charged with accessory after the fact, altering and destroying evidence and attempting to conceal the death of her son and a misdemeanor child abuse.

A neighbor living in the apartment complex described the mood of the community around the news.

“It’s a somber mood. Everybody is just kind of moseying around and doing the best they can. Of course there were plenty of police officers patrolling, so everybody is just kind of in a downward type of mood,” she said to WCNC.

The bond for the child’s mother was raised from a $100,000 secured bond to $1 million after additional charges were added to that of misdemeanor child abuse.
