Essence magazine’s February issue, which hit shelves tomorrow, will be a “black-out” cover dedicated to Black Lives Matter, which to many has become a modern day Civil Rights Movement.
For the first time in the brand’s 45 year history, the cover of Essence will not feature a model or celebrity.
Contributors to February’s issue include: Angela Davis, Susan Taylor, Isabel Wilkerson, Rev. Al Sharpton, Melissa Harris Perry, John Legend, Common and Chirlane McCray, among others, sharing unique perspectives on race, crime, brutality and healing.
“Our anger and hurt are calling us to look inward, to ask ourselves the hard questions: Are we doing what’s needed to demonstrate that Black life matters?” Susan Taylor writes in the issue.
