LeToya Luckett is hotter than ever. She’s currently starring in season 4 of Centric’s Single Ladies and recently landed a principle role in the upcoming NBC pilot Love Is a Four Letter Word.
Luckett has found success as a TV actress at a time when networks are embracing black actors seemingly more than ever.
In an interview with theGrio she discussed the growing number of TV series featuring black actresses, including Scandal, Empire, How to Get Away with Murder, Being Mary Jane and Single Ladies, and said that she hopes that the influx of black actresses in Hollywood is not a trend.
“I hope that this lasts for a very long time. I hope that it’s not a trend,” she said. “It should never be a trend. I think that everyone, all races, all genders, should be able to play leads. Now networks aren’t afraid to take that chance on a leading lady of other ethnicities. I thank the networks for opening up to that.”

She also weighed on the similarities between the cut-throat music executive she plays on Single Ladies and Taraji P. Henson’s role as Cookie on Empire.
“I love Taraji’s character… what she did with that. I’m so proud of her and everything that she’s doing with the show. I think that the two characters both have this Type A personality. They’re dominators, both of them. They’re women of power. Cookie has her way of doing things. Might be a little bit more street than Felicia, but they can cut you with the tongue. Don’t get in their way.”
Earlier this year, news broke of plans for two possible Destiny’s Child biopics: a film that Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles proposed to Sony Pictures and a rumored Lifetime biopic.
In January, Knowles told The Wall Street Journal he would “absolutely” love to see it happen.
Luckett, who was an original member of the chart-topping girl group, talked at length about the possibility of a Destiny’s Child biopic.
“I feel like there’s so many versions of that story. You’ve got like five people in that situation. So I think that as long as something like that is done with respect, and it celebrates all of us and doesn’t tear any of us down… That’s fine. As long as it’s done the right way.”
“People love a secret, and people love finding out the secret. We’re all very secretive, we’re all very private about our private lives and that situation,” Luckett added. “If a movie is done about it… okay. but I would want to celebrate all of us, because we were kids. You gotta tell that story in a certain way because you’re dealing with kids. Some of us got in that group at 8 or 9-years-old. So… careful.”
