Uzo Aduba, who is known for her role as “Crazy Eyes” in the Netflix show “Orange is the New Black,” will be running in the Boston Marathon on April 20 in order to raise money in support of cancer research.
This is Aduba’s second marathon; she ran her first in New York two years ago. She ran that first marathon to raise money for cancer research as well, and she says that the cause is close to her heart.
“When I ran New York, there were four people in my life – one had passed, and three were battling cancer,” Aduba said. “Now, today, there’s only one still fighting.”
Aduba grew up in Massachusettes and said that she grew up watching the Boston Marathon and making a day of the event. “I can’t believe I’m going from the seat of spectator to the place of participant,” she said.
“Marathon Monday, that’s what we call it,” she said. “It’s such a great tradition that we all love and are so proud to have in our city.”
Aduba has been running her whole life and was a sprinter in high school and college. She began long-distance running when she moved to New York in pursuit of her acting dreams.
