Video released of Philly mob beating homeless man with hammer

A Philadelphia homeless man is now in a coma after a vicious family mob attacked him with pepper spray, a hammer, and a chair leg.

Apparently, the fight started when a 10-year-old boy and the victim were squabbling over who would pump gas for the next car in exchange for spare change. He then told his mother that the man had hit him.

Police later found no marks on the boy or evidence to indicate that he was hit. What they did find, on the video surveillance, was a horrifying assault perpetuated by the family.

“Just watching, you see the viciousness of it,” Lt. Dan Brooks of Northwest Detectives said.

Five people jumped out of a minivan to attack the victim. One woman used a hammer, while the rest used fists, feet, and part of a rocking chair leg. The man was curled up into a fetal position as the blows rained down.

When, finally, the man was motionless, the attack continued for a while longer. Then, someone grabbed the 10-year-old to show off their good work.

Shareena Joachim, 24, and Aleathea Gillard, 34, were both arrested Tuesday for their part in the incident, and police are searching for others.

The victim is currently in a medically induced coma being treated for broken bones and skull fractures.
