Miami Beach police officer suspended for excessive force, but keeps job

A Miami Beach police officer has been suspended following a case of excessive force.

Detective Philippe Archer allegedly kicked and punched a woman after her arrest, and the incident took place in a parking garage at police headquarters. The woman had been arrested for a disturbance at a condo.

Archer has also been accused of punching a man who thought Archer was mugging the woman and tried to step in and help her.

However, he has not been charged for that incident.

The Miami Beach police chief issued a statement indicating that the force was trying to move on from the incident and that steps had already been taken to go forward.

On Monday, it was announced that Archer would be suspended for 160 hours. He was suspended over several violations, including excessive force and mistreating a prisoner.
