Alfonso Ribeiro to take over as host of America's Funniest Home Videos

Alfonso Ribeiro will be taking over America’s Funniest Home Videos from Tom Bergeron.

Although Bergeron will be retiring from his 14 years of hosting the comedy show, he will remain as host of Dancing with the Stars, the show that, Ribeiro said, was enormously influential in getting him the role.

Dancing With The Stars ended, there were several producers that all said to me that they felt that [America’s Funniest Home Videos] would be an absolute great gig for me,” Ribeiro said.

Ribeiro also noted that, when Bergeron heard the idea of Ribeiro taking over his America’s Funniest Home Videos hosting duties, Bergeron said, “Oh my God, that is just a beautiful idea. I’m on board.”

It was Dancing with the Stars that also launched Ribeiro’s fifteen minutes of internet fame when he broke out the moves from his The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air character Carlton Banks. And when you’ve got Carlton Banks on a dancing show, well, there’s no way you can’t bring out Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual,” to pull out the moves of “The Carlton Dance.”

Oddly enough, Tom Bergeron got to see his own retirement from America’s Funniest Home Videos through to the end when it was announced on the season finale of his other show, Dancing with the Stars.
