Janet Jackson’s hiatus is officially over.
Jackson has formally announced the release of a forthcoming album this fall via her website, ending months of speculation about a possible comeback.
The yet-to-be-titled studio album will be her first in seven years and is slated to be released via joint venture with her newly formed label Rhythm Nation and BMG.
This news comes on the heels of a recent teaser by Jackson, who tweeted a video last month on her 49th birthday. The clip promised her fans new music and a new world tour — but offered little specifics.

Jackson’s last album, 2008’s Discipline, was released via Island Records. The songstress left the label soon after due to disappointing sales, and her subsequent tour ended in 2011 to waning attendance.
