Texas woman missing from Caribbean island after snorkeling with family, friends

A Texas woman went missing on Thursday after snorkeling in the Caribbean.

Anthony Waller said that his sister-in-law, Amanda Waller, had gone snorkeling off the coast of the Caribbean island Curacao, which is near the coast of Venezuela. She was with her husband and a group of friends along Cas Abou Beach.

According to Matt Myers, who was part of the snorkeling group, a woman became tired and started to swim back to shore after they had been out snorkeling and taking pictures for a while. He said that Amanda began to swim after the woman a few minutes later, but when the group got back to shore 20 minutes after that, they realized that she was still missing.

They searched the water but could not find her, so they called in the Coast Guard, who arrived within 30 minutes to begin their search. The Coast Guard and others, including the Marines, searched by air and used dive teams and are checking the cameras in the area. However, after 72 hours, the responsibility for funding the search and rescue efforts falls to the family.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account in order to help pay for the expenses of continuing the search for Amanda.
