Dylann Roof’s sister starts 'GoFundMe' page to pay for honeymoon

The sister of Dylann Roof launched an online campaign this week to raise $5000 for a planned wedding and honeymoon that had been subsequently cancelled in the wake of the massacre.

Amber Roof’s brother Dylann is suspected of killing nine people at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, only a few short weeks ago.

She has turned to Go Fund Me to ask supporters to donate toward her campaign in an effort to “cover lost wedding costs, pay bills, and to send us on our dream honeymoon.”

As of this morning, $1,619 had been pledged.

Amber and her fiance were originally slated to be married on June 21, a mere four days after her brother, 21-year-old Dylann Roof, gunned down nine worshippers at the historic black church.

She states on her Go Fund Me page that she was forced to cancel her wedding day in order to “to protect [her] family and mourn the lives of those lost,” explaining that what was supposed to be “the day every girl dreams of,” instead turned into a day “full of sorrow, pain, and shame, tainted by the actions of one man.”

“The Charleston Massacre took place and our lives were forever changed. The media abused our privacy and published all of our wedding information and destroyed our dream day,” she added.

The page has begun to attract harsh criticism by some who find her appeal appalling and inappropriate.

“If its just about getting married then go to the court house. But how dare u set up a gofundme under these circumstances,” one commenter noted.

Roof has pledged to donate 10 percent of all the money raised to Emanuel AME Church.
