According to Huron County Coroner Jeffrey Harwood, Linda Ciotto was killed when James Blair, 50, shot her in the face from close range. There were also severe injuries to her left arm and hand that seem to have occurred due to a mower blade.
Early Wednesday, Blair was at last arrested after a six-hour standoff with sheriff’s deputies and a SWAT unit. The standoff finally ended after tear gas canisters were fired into the house, where Blair lived with his 73-year-old mother.
His mother was arrested on Thursday after it was discovered that she misled investigators about the location of the gun that Blair had used in the shooting. The gun was later discovered to be in her possession, inside a bag.
Huron County Sheriff Dane Howard described the crime scene as the most “bizarre” he had ever seen in his 30-year career.
“It was horrific,” he said.
