Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote a scathing op-ed piece for the Washington Post in which he criticized Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump.

Trump didn’t take it very well:

Kareem — Now I know why the press always treated you so badly — they couldn’t stand you,” Trump wrote in neat block letters over a copy of Abdul-Jabbar’s piece. “The fact is that you don’t have a clue about life and what has to be done to make America great again!

Trump then signed his retort with, “Best wishes.”

Abdul-Jabbar wasn’t phased by Trump’s condescending response. He shared Trump’s reply with his Facebook followers, adding that it was “the best, though inelegant, support for my claims.”

In the opinion piece, Abdul-Jabbar had criticized Trump for going after journalists who covered him in an unfavorable light, specifically citing Trump’s attack on Megyn Kelly. He called the attack a “political crime” of “attacking the First Amendment’s protection of a free press by menacing journalists.”

He also went on to say that Trump had only made things worse with his dismissal of Univision’s Jorge Ramos.

“Attempting to bully the press to silence criticism of him is anti-American,” wrote Abdul-Jabbar.

And if Trump’s blustering response to Abdul-Jabbar’s criticism is anything to go by, it looks like the op-ed wasn’t too far from the truth.
