11-year-old shoots, kills intruder during alleged home invasion attempt

An 11-year-old shot and killed a teenager who was trying to break into the boy’s home, according to police.

The second suspect in the attempted home invasion ran off.

The two suspects in the home invasion had tried to break into the home twice before when, on Thursday, they were at last able to enter the house through the unlocked door while the 11-year-old and a 4-year-old girl were at home alone.

When the suspects entered the home, the 11-year-old grabbed a handgun, which the child’s mother said she had purchased for protection against the people who had before tried to break into their home, and fired, killing one suspect and scaring off the other. The 16-year-old suspect who was killed was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police are investigating why the children were at home alone at the time of the home invasion as well as why the 11-year-old was able to have access to the handgun.

The second alleged intruder is in custody, and police are not releasing the name of either the second intruder or the suspect who was killed at this time.

Neither the 11-year-old nor the 4-year-old were injured during the attempted home invasion.
