Cast of 'The Perfect Guy' gives relationship advice

During recent interviews with theGrio, the cast of the upcoming film The Perfect Guy offered some relationship advice to new couples.

Morris Chestnut, who has been married for 20 years, said it’s all about taking your time and finding someone compatible.

“First and foremost, I would say that there is no perfect person, so you have to find out what’s a really good situation for you,” the 46-year-old said. “Get to know the person. Don’t just rush into things so quickly,” he added, saying sometimes people jump into situations with preconceived notions or ideals about someone being “the one.”

Chestnut’s co-stars, Sanaa Lathan and Michael Ealy, echoed his advice to take new dating experiences slow during a roundtable media lunch in New York Thursday. All three stars keep their private lives out of the spotlight, and both Lathan and Ealy agree privacy is a big part of their relationships.

“The more you keep your private life private, the better,” Lathan said.

Ealy, who secretly married his girlfriend in 2012 and surprised fans again in 2014 when he announced they had a baby boy, said he learned a lot in high school.

“The less people you have involved in what you’re doing, the more likely you are to be successful at it,” said Ealy. “I think Hollywood is a lot like high school. And now with social media everyone is involved in Hollywood, so it becomes a lot like high school.”

The Perfect Guy hits theaters Friday, September 11.
