Serena Williams is not here for your nonsense.
Williams was at a press conference following an incredibly tiring day. She had woken up early to get some practice in and then played one of the most intense matches of tennis ever against her older sister in the US Open, where the stakes were high enough without adding in the element of sibling rivalry.
So by the time Williams got to the press conference at Flushing Meadows at 11:30 at night, she wasn’t exactly in the mood for a reporter to ask her impertinent questions like why she wasn’t smiling and laughing after her win over her sister.
“It’s 11:30. To be perfectly honest with you, I don’t want to be here. I just want to be in bed right now and I have to wake up early to practice and I don’t want to answer any of these questions. And you keep asking me the same questions. It’s not really … you’re not making it super enjoyable,” she shot back at the reporter.
Let that be a lesson to all future reporters: do not annoy Serena Williams with petty questions. She’s not here to smile and laugh for you; she’s here to play tennis and to be the best at it.
