On Monday’s Dancing with the Stars, Tamar Braxton brought down the house with a gorgeous dance dedicated to her husband, who she almost lost in 2012, and her son.
During a pre-recorded segment, Braxton told the story of how she almost lost Vince Herbert.
“They tell us he has multiple blood clots in his lungs,” she said of their visit to the hospital. “Vince was induced into a coma, and the only thing I could think about was, ‘How am I going to live without the love of my life by my side?'”
After that visit, the couple decided to bring life into the world, and their son was born a year later.
Braxton brought the judges to tears with her performance, which paid tribute to family not only with her dance but with their contributions, with Herbert bringing his piano skills to bear in the dance and her sister, Toni Braxton, watching from the audience.
“You reached into my soul with that dance,” Carrie Ann Inaba sobbed when the dance was complete. “This was such an incredible performance.”
“I just wanted to do a great job so Vince could have this memory for the rest of his life,” Braxton told PEOPLE afterwards. “I wrote the song for him and my son, so I’m just really glad he can have a memory like this. It’s something he’ll never forget.”
