Whoopi Goldberg has a new book out, called If Someone Says ‘You Complete Me,’ Run!, and she’s dishing out relationship advice.
The book, which she bills as a guide for a woman who has “responsibilities and lots of things going on in her life and in her mind and in her heart,” covers everything from the beginning to the end of a relationship.
When it comes to finding your partner, Goldberg says you have to know what you want.
“There are probably a million things you don’t want,” she says. “Be clear and specific. Don’t wait until the honeymoon to figure it out . . . That way, you won’t let chemistry or attraction or lust or wishful thinking get you into a relationship that you know isn’t right for you.”
Once you’re in that relationship, though, Goldberg says it’s perfectly fine to cheat.
“Sometimes in a relationship, people can’t always get what they need, and if you have reputable people you can turn to in order to get what you need, I say go for it,” she says. “It is a whole lot better than being frustrated and angry at the person you love.”
And then, as life goes on, Goldberg wants women to know that there is nothing about aging that isn’t sexy.
“Women are afraid that once they get older, men will no longer find them attractive. That there’s some kind of expiration date on them. The truth of the matter is you never know who is going to find you attractive.”
Goldberg has been married three times, with her last divorce taking place in 1995.
