'America's Next Top Model' canceled after 22 seasons on the air

It’s been 12 years, 22 seasons, and 2 networks, but it looks like it’s time to say goodbye to “America’s Next Top Model.”

The CW network has confirmed that the finale will air on December 4th and that it is currently in talks to work on a retrospective episode to be aired at some time next year.

Tyra Banks, who has led us through the reality competition show for the past dozen years, also confirmed the news via Twitter. “Thinking #ANTM22 should be our last cycle,” Banks wrote. “I truly believe it’s time. May your pics be forever fierce. Keep on Smizing!”

“Top Model” was one of the highest-rated shows at the height of its popularity when it was airing on UPN. Following the merger of UPN and CW, the show was the first to air when the CW debuted, and it has remained popular as it launched the careers of, among others, model/reality TV star Adrianne Curry and actress Analeigh Tipton.

As for Banks, she will be working on several other projects, including her lifestyle syndicated show, FABLife, as well as a sequel to her Disney Channel movie, Life Size.

The end of “Top Model” also comes at a time when the CW is moving away from its teenage girl demographic and toward older audiences as well as superhero TV, including hit shows like “The Flash” and “Arrow.”
