Oscar-winning rapper Common showed up to support his friend Oprah Winfrey at the premiere of OWN’s Belief series in New York City Wednesday night.
A new episode of the series airs every night next week beginning Sunday and tackles the subject of religion and faith across the world.
Common opened about Oprah’s impact on his belief practices during a red carpet interview with theGrio.
“Me seeing her as a kid growing up Chicago… it was really influential because I saw her tackling topics that many people didn’t take the chance or have the ideas to tackle,” Common said. “She’s been able to enlighten me through her work. Just being able to be in contact with her at times is blessing. I think leading by example is one of the best things and she’s done it.”
When asked about the 2016 presidential election frontrunners, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, Common said that world is ready for the first female president.
“I think it would be wonderful if we would get a woman in for president,” Common said. “I think it could be something powerful, in that I think Hillary is more aligned with what I believe would be a better president than Donald Trump. She definitely strikes me as someone that would serve our country and the world better as a president, so that’s where I would put my vote right now.
The seven-night series event Belief kicks off Sunday at 8/7c on OWN.
