Virginia teen shot by off-duty officer at car wash

As the circumstances of his death remain under investigation, police have released the name of 18-year-old Patterson Brown Jr., who was killed by an off-duty Richmond Police officer on Saturday morning at a car wash.

According to police, Brown got in the officer’s car and drove it through the car wash. However, Brown was not employed by the car wash. The officer, who was off-duty at the time, then approached Brown and told him to get out of the car. Authorities say a scuffle then ensued. Surveillance video shows that there was a physical altercation between the officer and Brown, according to police.

“During the confrontation, the suspect was shot, and he was transported to Chippenham Hospital where he later died,” a Chesterfield Police spokesman said, reports WTVR.

The name of the officer involved has not yet been released, though the officer is on administrative leave.

According to Brown’s friends, he played football at James River High School, where he recently graduated.
