Family of Jahi McMath, teen declared brain dead, share update

The family of a teenager who was declared brain dead after complications from a sleep apnea surgery has released an update on their daughter’s condition claiming that she is improving, reports Pix11.

Jahi McMath was declared brain dead after her operation in 2013, and the court fight that followed gained national attention as her family fought to keep her on life support and eventually moved to New Jersey.

The family’s attorney, Chris Dolan, argued last year that McMath was no longer brain dead and showed signs of life, though he admits that a recovery from brain death would be a medical first.

Lawyers for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital have maintained that the evidence still points to McMath being legally dead despite the allegations of the family to the contrary.

Recently, the family uploaded a picture of McMath to Facebook along with an update.
