On Friday, the friends and family of 9-year-old Amiyah Kayla Dunston gathered together to mourn her death after she was mauled by a pit bull.
Amiyah had been playing with a friend that she was visiting when a neighbor’s pit bull attacked her.
At the services, friends and family wore pink in her memory, since Amiyah was often wearing her favorite color.
The family has since started a crowdfunding campaign to raise $30,000 for funeral expenses and grief counseling. “Amiyah was a beautiful, smart, talented child who had a heart of gold,” the girl’s godmother, Nicole Robinson, wrote on the GoFundMe page Friday. “She had an impact on all who met her. She brought out the best in us.”
