Erykah Badu shades Iggy Azalea: ‘What you’re doing is definitely not rap’

On Sunday, Erykah Badu threw some serious shade at Iggy Azalea during the 2015 Soul Train Awards, saying that what Azalea does can’t be considered rap.

“As you know, I am the queen of neo soul and people say I have this common effect on rappers: that I make them change gods and wear crochet hats, shoulder pads,” Badu said during her opening monologue. “So they have banned me from all of the hip-hop awards with a sign saying ‘Erykah Badu, leave our rappers alone.’”

She then joked that rap was, in turn, “banned” from the Soul Train Awards, and that’s when she brought Azalea into the picture.

“Who is this? Iggy Azalea? Yeah, hey! No, no, no, no, no, no, no! You can come,” Badu yelled into her phone after pretending to take a call from Azalea. “Because what you’re doing is definitely not rap.”

The audience burst into applause, and shortly after that, so did the Internet.
