Karyn White calls out BET and ‘Soul Train Awards’ for ‘Superwoman’ snub

Last night, the 2015 Soul Train Awards trended on social media as some of music’s biggest names paid tribute to soul and R&B.

One of the evening’s most-talked about highlights was a tribute to singer/songwriter Babyface Edmunds, as Tevin Campbell, Boyz II Men, Bobby Brown, Brandy and more performed some of his legendary hits.

Fantasia brought down the house with her stirring renditions of Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop, Shoop),” while she also covered Karyn White’s 1988 womens’ empowerment anthem, “Superwoman.”

Today, White took to Facebook to call out the Soul Train Awards for not offering her the opportunity to sing the song that she made a hit.

“I’ve been getting bombarded with questions from fans, family, friends… people just calling [saying], ‘Karyn, why weren’t you on the show? Are you okay? Is everything all right? Why weren’t you there? Everybody else was there, we wanted to see you.'”

“Good question, I don’t know,” White said.

“I never got a call from [Babyface] or BET or Centric, or Soul Train music affiliates, nobody.” she added. “I don’t know. Maybe they don’t know I’m back in the entertainment industry.”

“I just want you guys to know I think Fantasia did an incredible job. She’s a bad girl. She put it down. It has nothing to do with Fantasia. It’s really just the fact that Kenny [Babyface] wrote the song and Karyn White made it a hit. I believe my fans deserve to see me sing the song.”
